Church Square Widening
Between the two world wars [Sept 1925] Church Square was widened by the setting back [by 11 feet] of the churchyard wall and the felling of a row of chestnut trees.
The Green was kerbed all the way around to form the present road pattern. There have been one or two minor alterations to green such as a bus waiting bay and the rounding of one or two corners necessitated by the arrival of the present day juggernauts.

Above are notes from the Toddington Historical Society – held in Toddington Library
There is an engraved stone in the present church wall:
The before 1925 and the May 2025 photos show many differences but also many similarities over 100 years:
- The Aylesbury Brewery Co is now the Bell public house
- The Post Office has become Delicious Desserts
- There was even street lighting in 1925 - presumably a gas light
- It looks like a couple of ladies outside what are now the Arms Houses
- The Sow & Pigs Inn is now a dentist
- With the widened road it is now possible to see the Park Road junction
- If the road had not been widened, what would the traffic have been like over the past 100 years!?!

Despite the widening the church yard wall has suffered damage over the years. The 2024 photo is where a lorry manoeuvring in or out of Park Road hit the wall, requiring the pillar to be rebuilt. thankfully costs recovered by the parish council insurer from the driver's insurance.
